In my travels over the past several months, I have talked with many anarchists who conceive of anarchy as a moral principle. Some go so far as to speak of anarchy as though it were a deity to whom they had given themselves–reinforcing my feeling that those who really want to experience anarchy may need to divorce themselves from anarchism.

Neonazi gathering in the city of Agrinio fought off local anti-fascists; Nazi MP beaten

On Monday night (July 9) approximately 40 nazis of the Golden Dawn had gathered in a cafe in the city of Agrinion, Western Greece. A few moments later, anti-fascists who were informed of the gathering met up nearby and stormed the cafe; after the clash that followed, the nazis were forced to a hastily retreat. Among the nazis injured was their local MP. No injuries were reported on the side of the anti-fascists, and no arrests.

In the Libertarian Movement’s battle against the Franco regime, 1949 stands out as one of the bloodiest of years, with large numbers of its tried and tested fighters being ruthlessly eliminated. The systematic slaughter had begun back in 1947 and 1948, with the killing of, among others, Antonio lopez and Diego Franco Cazorla (“Amador Franco”) who were shot in San Sebastian,a nd of Raul Carballeira Lacunza and Ramon Gonzales Sanmarti who were gunned down in Barcelona.

Six years on, and still fighting Lapindo

Recently, 3000 victims of the mud volcano created by the Lapindo company’s drilling operations, whose homes were in the affected area, once again demonstrated their feelings outside the East Java Governor’s office in Surabaya. They were asking the provincial government to lend money to PT Minarak Lapindo Jaya so the company would be able to pay the compensation money it owed. The demonstrators came from places inside the designated affected zone, for example Renokenongo, Siring, Jatirejo and Glagah Arum villages in Porong district, and Kedungbendo and Ketapang in Tanggulangin District.
