| On May 24, 2012 the Vancouver Branch of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum hosted a luncheon meeting at the Four Season’s Hotel in Vancouver focusing on Compliance Energy Corp’s proposed Raven Coal Mine. The site for this proposed mine is in unceded Pentlach Territory on Vancouver Island, also known as the Comox Valley.The lemon meringue was barely finished with keynote speaker and Compliance Energy Corp. CEO John Tapics mentioning that there was social opposition to Raven Coal, when he and the 100 person conference were abruptly interrupted by a half dozen people who unleashed decaying herring upon them. A chaotic stench and nauseating shower of fermented fish engulfed the room. Herring are only one of the species that will be negatively effected by the mining development. (Contrary to mass media reports it was herring, not excrement) |
Simultaneously, coal tumbled onto the ground. The wondrous blend created by insurgent passion was too overwhelming for the industrial capital bosses to handle. People yelled unyielding opposition while pamphlets were strewn in the air to assert the point, “It has Begun! No Compliance! No Compromise! No Coal!”
Those attending had no choice but to step in the mix of herring and coal as they quickly exited, the conference being effectively shut down. The coal, the herring, what a sight, what a smell: never to be whipped, chained, or owned into submission. A great force used to crash the daydreams and sick fantasies of industrial development.
No one was captured or injured. The conference and the hotel were shut down.
This action is a small contribution to the ongoing struggle against the Raven Coal Mine. We are through with dialogue. We do not except the false temptation of economic development. We will not poison ourselves, each other or the earth to survive!

Sabotage d’une conférence minière à Vancouver
Ce 24 mai 2012, le bureau de Vancouver de l’Institut Canadien des mines, de la métallurgie, et du pétrole a tenu un dîner-conférence à l’hotel Four Season à Vancouver centré sur le projet Raven Coal Mine, proposé par Compliance Energy Corp. Le site de cette mine en projet est sur le territoire non-cédé de l’île de Vancouver Island, aussi connu sous le nom de Comox Valley.
La tarte à la crème et citron fut à peine terminée que le porte-parole et PDG de Compliance Energy Corp, John Tapics, mentionna qu’il y avait de l’opposition sociale au Raven Coal, quand lui et les 100 autres conférenciers furent abruptement interrompus par une demi-douzaine de gens qui ont déchaîné des harengs pourris sur eux. La salle fut engouffrée dans le chaos de la puanteur et la pluie répugnante de poissons fermentés. Le hareng serait la seule espèce à être négativement affectée par ce développement minier (contrairement à ce que les médias de masse ont rapporté, ce furent des harengs, et non des excréments).
Simultanément, du charbon a été répandu par terre. Ce magnifique mélange créé par la passion insurgente était trop envahissant pour les patrons du capital à être géré. Les gens ont crié leur opposition sans retenue alors que des tracts furent jetés dans les airs pour faire valoir ce point :
“Ça a commencé ! Pas de conformité (Compliance) ! Pas de compromis ! Pas de charbon !”
Les invités n’eurent d’autre choix que de marcher au travers de ce mélange explosif de harengs et de charbon pour sortir de la salle, et la conférence fut efficacement arrêtée. Le charbon, le hareng… quelle vue, quelle puanteur : ne pouvant jamais être balayée, enchaînée, ni gagnée par la soumission. Ce fut une force notoire qui fut utilisée pour briser les rêves éveillés et les fantaisies malades du développement industriel.
Personne n’a été capturé ou blessé. La conférence et l’hôtel furent fermés au résultat de cela.
Cette action est une petite contribution à la lutte en cours contre le Raven Coal Mine. Nous en avons marre du dialogue. Nous n’acceptons pas les fausses tentations du développement économique. Nous n’allons pas nous empoisonner entre nous, pour que la Terre survive !
