15 Anarchists, 3 of them high school students, are in Prison

On the 14th and 28th of May, 14 people were arrested by the “Anti Terror” Police raids done accounting that some private companies’ windows were broken on the 1st of May 2012 in Istanbul. One more person was arrested last week and the number of people in prison has risen 15 in total.

12 prisoners started indefinite hunger strike by the 11th of June because of the lawlessness in the process and the baseless claims.

The evidences introduced for 15 people to be arrested because of “Breaking windows” include articles published in some magazines, or for some, only that their names are mentioned in the statements given by the lawyers close to the police force.

It is even noted that between the prisoners there are even people who were not there in the 1st May.

Three high school students sent a letter to public (http://j.mp/MLgLJd – in Turkish), drawing attention to how they were arrested of being members of “imaginary terror organisations” by “secret” witness statements; without any proper evidence, and just because they were “opponents”, and even though they did not take part in any violent actions.

15 prisoners, including three high school students who are yet 18 years old, were sent to Metris Prison wards by provocative introductions like “Godless terrorists have arrived”. They were also threatened to be divided into different wards separately; but ressisted against this.

The claims about “damaging property”, which would not be an area of inquiry of the Special Courts and Anti Terror Laws, are investigated by the Special Courts claiming that there is a terror organisation called “Anarchists” and the investigation is kept secret.

Special Courts;

* Arrest and keep people in prison for months, until the trial starts,
* Do not need to show any proper evidences, or even if there are evidences, the alleged crimes would not be a reason to be kept in prison until trial,
* Display the latest example by giving extrajudicial penalties; arrest people before the trial starts wth bias and keep them for months.

While there are treaths like “police operations will continue”, 15 people are kept in prison for a trial with a doubtful indictment which is kept by a “secrecy order” and which is not know when it will start.
